For nearly 90 years, the West Newton Cinema has been a beloved community fixture, offering a thoughtfully curated selection of mainstream, independent, foreign and classic films. With its Art Deco charm and deep roots in West Newton, the Cinema holds a special place in the hearts of many who have passed through its doors.

In 2023, members of the Newton community rallied to save this local icon and formed the West Newton Cinema Foundation (WNCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Through the incredible generosity of an anonymous benefactor, and with support from the community at all levels, the Foundation met its Phase I Capital Campaign goal and officially purchased the Cinema for $5.6 million in August 2024.

The Cinema, the key initiative of WNCF, is now fully operational as a nonprofit theater and on a sustainable path. Our next goal is to restore the Cinema’s original beauty and create a vibrant, community-oriented, inclusive space. Planning is underway for renovation and restoration while WNCF conducts Phase II of the Campaign for West Newton Cinema to raise the necessary funds.
