“Can you define irony?”
If so, you may have this film to thank.
Described by Chuck Klosterman as “an instruction manual for a transitory set of values that only made sense in 1994,” Reality Bites is the quintessential snapshot of Generation X.
With a stellar cast that launched legendary careers—Ben Stiller, Winona Ryder, Janeane Garofalo, and Ethan Hawke as the unforgettable (and maddening) Troy Dyer—this film captured the voice of a generation.
Join host Brad Abraham for a special introduction and stay for a lively post-film discussion about the movie that defined—and maybe even misunderstood—our generation.
Brad Abraham is a Canadian-born screenwriter, author, and journalist whose work spans the worlds of film and television, literature, comics, and podcasting, including the SyFy Channel productions Stonehenge Apocalypse and Robocop Prime Directives, the Kiwi cannibal comedy Fresh Meat, the graphic novel series Mixtape, and the acclaimed fantasy thriller Magicians Impossible. He was a longtime contributor to Fangoria, Dreamwatch, Starburst, and Rue Morgue Magazines, and is host of The Celluloid Heroes Podcast. He lives in Newton with his family and within walking distance of the West Newton Cinema.
