Celebrate Spring this month with a concert with a Latin feel, just ahead of the Cinco de Mayo holiday. “El Jarabe Tapatío,” the Mexican Hat Dance, is a program presented by the Chelmsford Community Band, bringing tunes and games together for the enjoyment of Mexican and Spanish music featuring dance and celebration. This is also the annual joint performance with both the Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band providing part of the musical program. The concert starts at 2pm on Sunday, April 28, at the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Road, North Chelmsford.
In addition to the music, the annual band fundraising raffle will feature baskets of goodies, gift certificates, and crafts donated by local businesses, crafters, and members of the ensemble. From toys to theatre tickets to wine to crocheted treasures, there is a prize for every taste. Stay tuned to the band’s social media accounts for sneak previews of this year’s prizes.
Admission to this concert is free, but the band greatly appreciates donations to help purchase new music and to pay for rehearsal space. Recommended regular donations are $10, with $5 for children and seniors. Baked goods and refreshments will be available for an additional donation.
The Chelmsford Community Band was founded in 1972 and is a volunteer group of adult musicians who greatly enjoy bringing live music to the greater Chelmsford area. The band plays several concerts throughout the year including weekly appearances on Chelmsford Common every summer.
