John and Betty Erkkila will present an illustrated book talk with historic photographs of Lanesville from their recently published book, Souvenirs of Lanesville. A book signing will follow. Souvenirs of Lanesville can be purchased in the Museum shop or online.
John Winchester Erkkila was born in Gloucester and grew up in Lanesville Village. His father Onni was a Harley-Davidson rider and mother Barbara was an author of local history books and a staff writer at the Gloucester Daily Times for over 50 years. From his parents, John received an interest in and love of history and antique autos. Also born in Gloucester, his wife, Betty Anne (Kielinen) Erkkila, was brought home on Pearl Harbor Day to Pigeon Cove, the birthplace of her father and uncle. Her parents were Matt & Rachel Kielinen. They are mostly remembered for creating and operating Boulder Top Cottages and Motel in Rockport overlooking Sandy Bay.
The Erkkilas have long been fascinated with Cape Ann, U.S. and world history. They are grateful to the many individuals who shared historical information and photographs from their family albums to create Souvenirs of Pigeon Cove and now Souvenirs of Lanesville photo books.
This program is free for CAM members or with Museum admission. Reservations are not required.
