The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory invites you to the Charles Hayden Planetarium for a one-of-a-kind, private planetarium experience, including a science presentation on solar storms narrated by Dr. Kelly Korreck, followed by a choral performance, COSMOS, by the Boston Choral Ensemble, featuring space-themed music and images.
Solar Storm Warning
Kelly Korreck, PhD, astrophysicist in the Solar and Stellar X-ray Group for the High Energy
Astrophysics Division, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
Solar flares and coronal mass ejections are currently the biggest “explosions” in our solar system, packing the power of nearly one billion hydrogen bombs. Through stunning visuals in the Charles Hayden Planetarium, explore how these geomagnetic storms can cause awesome sights, but also huge interruptions in the technologies we depend on every day.
