The Theater Offensive OUT’hood Series in partnership with Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion (IBA) will present a series of films that highlight the diverse lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Latinx people.
Latinx, a gender-neutral term increasingly used by Spanish speakers to include people of all genders identities, including those who identify as gender-nonconforming or genderfluid, here encompasses a wide range of identities and experiences: from a Puerto Rican lesbian who after years of auto-exile goes back to her rural home in Puerto Rico to invite her conservative family to her wedding ("Extraterrestres"), to the Boston debut of a documentary about the iconoclastic musical artist Chavela Vargas ("Chavela"), to the first Peruvian film recorded entirety from a Smartphone and about a transgender woman who kidnap the daughter of a transphobic Minister in order to have the money that she needs for her sex change operation ("Sin Vagina, Me Marginan").
September 12th: "ExtraTerrestres" (Puerto Rico)
September 19th: "Sin Vagina, Me Marginan" (Peru)
September 26th: "Chavela" (US)
The film series, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Wednesday September 12, 19 & 26 at Villa Victoria Center for the Arts in South End, Boston.
