Jake Armerding is a singer, producer, violinist, published author and "the most gifted and promising songwriter to emerge from the Boston folk scene in years" (Boston Globe).
Jake will be performing selections from his latest album, "Sweet Octave," which includes music on the octave violin, an instrument that is tuned one octave below a standard violin and allows for a different way of artistic expression.
Armerding draws on a wealth of influences in his music -- contemporary folk, progressive bluegrass, classic folk-rock of the '60s, and singer/songwriters of the '70s and '80s.
Openers will be Andy and Judy, a singer-songwriter folk duo from Pembroke whose original tunes drawn from their observations have won praise for their precisely balanced instrumentals and harmonies.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. for pay-what-you-can coffee and homemade desserts. Music will start at 8. Admission is $10 students with ID and seniors 80 and older; $15 for seniors 62 and older; $20 general; and $40 family. Tickets available at door or online at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4319397
This concert is funded in part by a grant from the Weymouth Cultural Council, a local agency of Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Music At Sanctuary Hall performances take place in an Edwardian-era architectural and acoustic wonder tucked away in East Weymouth's Jackson Square. It is also the sanctuary of East Weymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Our Music Director describes It as having “the best acoustics south of Boston’s Jordan Hall.”
Our concert season runs from September to May and includes a variety of artists performing folk, jazz, blues, classical, gospel and special Christmas/Holiday concerts in December and January.
Past performers have included such nationally known acts as Mark Erelli and Les Sampou, both of whom have performed many times at the storied Passim in Cambridge. Local performers include Jim Melody, composer of “Christmas in Boston,” plus the Joyful Voices of Inspriation gospel choir, which has performed all over the planet; the Sharon Concert Band and our own orchestra-in-residence, the Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra.
