Learn how to transform fabric-body figures into expressive marionettes in this unique hands-on class. Participants will try out a wide variety of professionally crafted marionettes and learn the connections between structure, movement, strings, balance, and controls. Then, starting with a basic bi-pedal figure, we will conduct "puppet surgeries” to craft fabric joints and adapt body structures to achieve desired movements and expressive gestures. We'll also learn strategies for customizing characters with facial features, accessories, and costume elements. Finally, we'll practice the basics of character animation with performance exercises and a marionette obstacle course. A great class for tinkerers of all kinds, from toy collectors to engineers.
For adults and teens 16+. This is an introductory class: no previous experience is required. All materials will be provided by the instructor.
