Description:
Mount Galehead and Garfield are two 4,000 footers in the White Mountains and are part of the Twin Mountain range. Both summits offer panoramic views of the surrounding peaks in the White Mountains. The plan is to bag these two peaks in a 15.1 mile loop. We’ll start on the Mount Garfield trail until we reach the junction of the Garfield Ridge Trail. We’ll take the Garfield Ridge Trail briefly before taking a short spur trail to the summit of Mount Garfield (4,501 ft.). The summit offers great views including Franconia Ridge and the Bonds. The plan is to head back to the Garfield Ridge Trail. We’ll continue on the Garfield Ridge Trail until we reach another junction. Continue on the Frost Trail towards the AMC Galehead Hut, which is a great place to fill water. We’ll continue onwards towards the summit of Mount Galehead (4,026 ft.) which also offers great views of the Twins. Following the summit, we’ll head back towards the Garfield Ridge Trail briefly before reaching the Gale River Trail until we reach the junction of the Mount Garfield trail and the trailhead.
