Giulia Haible and Caroline Dressler are a Boston-based fiddle duo who play Scottish/Celtic traditional and contemporary music with fiddle, cello, and piano. Caroline is the New England Regional Junior Scottish Fiddle Champion and Giulia has been selected for the MMEA Northeastern Senior District Festival. Inspired mainly by music from the Scottish tradition, Giulia and Caroline's sound features robust harmonies, jazzy riffs, and melancholic refrains, all woven together to create a complex and appealing sound. While their jigs and reels have you on your feet dancing, there is a modern flavor that is easily detected, one that is inspired by jazz, classical, and other contemporary music styles. Giulia and Caroline are able to apply diversity to their tone; sometimes having it light and frothy, while other times it is rich, throaty, or melancholic. They have been inspired and taught by Hanneke Cassel, Katie McNally, Natalie McMaster and Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas. Caroline and Giulia are both members of the Scottish Fish, a five piece fiddle group that occasionally performs at Passim. In April 2014 the duo traveled to Northumberland and Scotland with Pete Sutherland and Mark Sustic as part of the Young Tradition Vermont Touring Group. Giulia and Caroline’s latest accomplishment is their first album, titled Dragonfly.
