Portraits of Hispanic American Heroes
with instructor Nayda Cuevas
Grades K-5
Learn about Latin@ scholars and community activists through storytelling and art! Participants will work together and independently to learn the stories of many Hispanic figures throughout history. They will then create portraits of these individuals inspired by the work created in “Portraits of Hispanic American Heroes,” by Juan Felipe Herrera. Learn about Judith Baca and how she transformed many neighborhoods in Los Angeles through her mural projects, and then create a portrait in her painting style! Many heroes will be discussed including Roberto Clement, Rita Moreno, and Desi Arnaz!
