TANGO! explores the various stylistic connections that connect the classical and jazz idioms in the dance music of the tango as it has evolved through the ages. The Arneis Quartet will collaborate with Julien Labro, whose musical roots lie in the improvisatory nature of folk and jazz music. The program brings a unique blend of styles not often seen at concerts presented by Emmanuel Music and is ideal for the format of "Late Night at Emmanuel".
Labro’s I’m Late… features complex quartet writing reminiscent of Bartok and Ginastera that will appeal to the more “serious” concertgoer. The Villa Lobos and Bacalov selections feature beautiful lyrical melodies that those who are newer to chamber music concerts will find attractive. I’m Late… is written in reference to the White Rabbit’s famous quote from Alice in Wonderland, and this literary connection will be briefly explained during the performance and then fleshed out during the talk between the performances.
All concert seating is general admission by section. Please select on the calendar view if you are purchasing tickets to the 8PM or 10PM showing.
