Healthy Tomorrow will sell fairly traded, hand-crafted rugs from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Iran to support their work in Mali convincing parents not to do female genital mutilation, or FGM, on their girls. Sini Sanuman, the Malian group that Healthy Tomorrow supports, puts messages on the airwaves in Mali against FGM, holds public meetings, sometimes leading to whole villages abandoning the practice, and works with the practitioners to get them to see how harmful it is to cut girls. They have collected 75,000 signatures on the Pledge Against Excision which is being used to help convince the Malian government to enact a law against FGM.
All proceeds from the sale will go to Mali for this work.
