Harvard College Opera dares you to dream in Massenet’s Cendrillon, a stunning rendition of the most beloved fairy tale of all time. Brought to life by an entirely undergraduate staff, cast, and orchestra, performances will take place in the historic Agassiz Theater on February 1st, 2nd, and 8th at 7:00 PM and February 9th at 6:00 PM, with additional matinées on Sunday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM and Sunday, February 10th at 12:00 PM. The performance on February 2nd will be followed by the Nuit Française Reception, co-hosted by the Harvard Francophone Society; on February 3rd, a Fairytale Matinée featuring a meet-and-greet for families and children; and on February 9th, HCO’s Third Annual Opera Gala, all in the Horner Room of Agassiz Theater. Alongside deeply human moments of tragedy and hardship, Cinderella finds her happily ever after in this irresistible opera of beauty, whimsy, and love.
Formerly the Dunster House Opera Society, HCO was founded in 1992 by Dunster House students as the premier undergraduate opera company dedicated to making opera more accessible to the greater Harvard community. HCO presents one full-length opera each February with an entirely undergraduate cast and production team. Throughout the academic year, HCO hosts a variety of smaller-scale events, from opera screenings to free recitals of songs, arias, and opera scenes. 2019 marks Harvard College Opera’s sixth year performing in the historic Agassiz Theater.
