Join WGBH for a night all about heroes and heroines. Learn about superheroes and culture, history through comics, and a local hero saving the world one penguin at a time.
Hear from:
Sarah Zaidan
Game designer, artist, and researcher
Sarah’s work explores the notion that superheroes can transcend culture, and they can also provide a venue for conversations about identity and gender. She has a passion for video games, comic books and their role in history. She is even the co-author of her own feminist superhero comic.
Joel Christian Gill
Cartoonist, illustrator, educator and historian
Joel uses graphic novels to tell the untold narratives of black American history. His series, Strange Fruit: Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History, uses historical events and dynamic illustrations to illuminate why it’s important to study black history side by side with American history.
Dyan deNapoli
Penguin expert, TED speaker and author
Dyan is a hero. Her work at the New England Aquarium gave her the background she needed to save more than 40,000 penguins in the largest animal rescue ever undertaken. Now, she travels the world as “The Penguin Lady,” teaching about penguins and following dreams.
BostonTalks is WGBH’s smarter happy hour. It’s smarter because you will hear three local experts share their insights, and it’s happy hour because we feature craft brews and wine.
