Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) announces the 28th MassArt Auction will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the Bakalar & Paine Galleries at MassArt. Over 300 works of art in a range of media from emerging to established artists, including MassArt alumni and students, will be available for bid in the silent and live auction. Social justice, identity, and feminism emerge as themes among many of the pieces selected this year.
The 2017 live auction includes 35 works by internationally renowned artists including Romare Bearden, Shepard Fairey, Louise Nevelson, and Kara Walker; and local artists such as MassArt faculty Rania Matar and emerging artists MassArt alumni Clint Baclawski MFA ’08 and Erin Riley BFA ’07. This year’s silent auction of 293 pieces also boasts a wide range of celebrated artists, including Nick Cave, MassArt faculty Matthew Connors, Nelson Da Costa, Jess T. Dugan ‘07, and Sophie Hughes ’08.
The MassArt Auction annually draws a crowd of over 700 collectors and art enthusiasts seeking to view and purchase exceptional contemporary art while supporting the College. All proceeds from this spectacular night provide vital scholarship aid and academic program support for MassArt students. Last year's auction was the highest grossing MassArt Auction in history with over $1 million raised.
