Nearing almost the halfway point in their busy Summer 2022 11-concert season, the Compaq Big Band is THRILLED to return to Milford, New Hampshire on Wednesday July 27th as part of the Milford Recreation Department’s ‘Sounds On The Souhegan’ series. The venue is Emerson Park Milford Nh , nestled on the banks of the Souhegan River, just off The Oval. This is a FREE outdoor concert, open to all - just bring a blanket and/or lawn chair.
The show runs 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Emerson Park is located at 6 Mont Vernon Street, next to the Post Office. In case of rain, the concert moves indoors to nearby Milford Town Hall, One Union Square.
Fronting the band that evening will be amazing jazz vocalist Marina Evans, channelin’ Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schuur, Tierney Sutton, Natalie Cole, and more!
And, they’ll be doing some absolutely smokin’ instrumentals, too. Like… Maynard Ferguson’s “Birdland” arranged by Nick Lane and “Gonna Fly Now” updated by Callum Au. Gordon Goodwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue”. Tom Kubis’ “Caravan” featuring their killer bass trombonist Ed Goroza on the big horn. Just too much fun to pack into 90 minutes!

As is the case whenever they perform, the Compaq Big Band will be featuring a complete, honest, REAL big band configuration of 18 instrumentalists (17 is THE modern big band standard) – no compromises.
And as is also the case wherever they go, the band will be bringing their state-of-the-art traveling sound system and professional mixing technician. Listeners will love the clarity of the sound throughout the venue, as well as the band’s absolute passion for professional technical support details.
In the last few decades, the Compaq Big Band has risen to prominence throughout New England as one of the most accomplished full-size big bands in the region, featuring a cookin’ rhythm section and 14 horns that achieve an ultra-tight sound, with terrific instrumental soloists. To complement this high-powered ensemble, they showcase a rotation of talented jazz vocalists, carry a comprehensive, modern sound reinforcement infrastructure and experienced, full-time sound engineer, and are ultra-focused on unmatched big band production quality.
The Compaq Big Band’s ‘book’ is one of the best in the Northeast. While they’re faithful to traditional Swing Era classics, they really dig their chops into challenging swing and jazz arrangements played by the most approachable yet progressive big bands of the last four decades. They’re busy year-round, performing at commercial/nonprofit/collegiate swing dances, as well as fundraisers, celebrations, theaters, jazz clubs, multi-jazz band nights at area high schools, arts festivals, outdoor summer concerts, and more.
