About Hilken: she co-fronted the band Fuzzy in the ‘90s and was signed to Atlantic Records and in Rolling Stone as having written one of the top 50 songs of the 90’s. In 2000 she co founded Punk Rock Aerobics (PRA) the original PRA DIY workout. PRA was heralded as a blockbuster fitness “craze,” and has been featured in the New York Times, People Magazine, Newsweek, MTV, Rolling Stone, VH1 and more. In 2010 she co-founded Girls Rock Camp Boston, where she introduced the self-empowerment exercises that are now being used in youth rock camp nonprofits worldwide.
Rock History: Hilken starred in Green Day’s video “Here Comes the Shock” and has been a member of the bands Fuzzy, Shepherdess, and The Monsieurs. who opened for Foo Fighters at Fenway Park in 2018.
40 South: Since 2005, Hilken has owned and operated 40 South St. -- the iconic Jamaica Plain vintage store which provides a handpicked and curated collection of clothing and accessories from the 60’s to the 90’s. Her customer base includes rock stars and costume designers, but consists mainly of folks who hope to express their own voice in their everyday look. She believes all forms of her work are a vehicle for artistic expression and empowerment, providing an opportunity to take up space, think for yourself, and say “No Thanks!” to the status quo.
