“That peculiar little show, from the local company Opera on Tap, had made me joyous.”
- The New York Times
Opera on Tap is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote opera as a viable, living, and progressive art form by taking it out of the concert hall and putting it into venues where people least expect it. The company was founded in Brooklyn in 2005, and Opera on Tap’s Boston chapter launched in 2012 with an inaugural show at Cambridge’s Club Oberon. OOT has since expanded to bars, restaurants, art galleries, urban farms, community gardens, parks, and more throughout greater Boston. Opera on Tap is a proudly female-run organization, and has praise by leading Boston area publications like The Globe, The Herald, WBUR, and Improper Bostonian.
Who we are:
Opera on Tap’s primary mission is to entertain. Programs may offer a mix of opera arias, art song, and jazz standards, and more, and are tailored to season, venue and audience. The artist roster comprises some of the finest young professional singers in the Boston area, selected for their ability to capture the attention and imagination of diverse audiences with high-energy, interactive performances. These are singers that can get opera buffs and newcomers alike to stand up and cheer for classical music in a bar. Opera on Tap is a proudly female-run organization, and has praise by leading Boston area publications like The Globe, The Herald, and Improper Bostonian. The company’s “Nasty Women of Opera” show was highlighted in WBUR’s Fall 2018 guide to Boston’s most innovative opera.
