Longtime partners, Steven and Stephen, are raising a son conceived with a surrogate while chafing at the confines of domesticity. A casual case of sexting sets off a series of questions and recriminations between the couple and their circle of friends. A surprisingly serious comedy by playwright Mark Gerrard in which no event is so grave or so trivial that it cannot be annotated with a musical comedy reference. You don’t have to be gay to identify with the married couples in Steve. The play holds up a clear but compassionate mirror to anyone who’s been part of a post-passion long-term relationship and started to question what now?
Steve performances are March 2 through March 23 at the Plaza Black Box Theater at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Special Event:
Wash away your winter blues with some bubbly and Broadway at Zeitgeist Stage’s SIP AND SWIRL WITH “STEVE” on Sunday, March 4th at 2:45 pm. This special matinee performance will include a pre-show sparkling wine tasting led by the master sommeliers of The Urban Grape. Prosecco, Cava, and Champagne will be on the menu, along with light bites and a lively discussion of what defines these different varieties. Following the tasting, guests will continue the party with “Steve,” a light-hearted comedy about a failed Broadway chorus boy turned stay-at-home dad who must examine his increasingly complicated life as another birthday approaches.
The tasting event is held in the Plaza Theater lobby at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St in Boston’s South End. Tickets to the tasting are $25. Tickets to the “Steve” performance are separate and available for $20. Separate tickets so you may attend the event or the show or both. The matinee performance will end by 5:45 PM, so we guarantee that you will be home in time for the Oscars later that evening! (Please note that this is a 21+ event.) Tickets for both events are available at BostonTheatreScene.com, 617.933.8600.
