Born in Manzanillo, Cuba, Cuban pianist Zahili Gonzalez Zamora started playing piano at the age of six, and graduated from the National School of Music with a performance degree. Her passion for music has taken her to Canada, to South East Asia and, the United States. Her rich musical background, career experience, and extraordinary improvisation skills make her a modern Latin jazz leader and an influential musician. In 2018, with funding from The Boston Foundation, her Afro-Cuban jazz Trio, MIXCLA, released its self-titled album, which features her original tunes and received two nominations from the Boston Music Awards (2018 & 2019).
Zahili has appeared on four Neighborhood Arts concerts with 3Nity and Claudio Ragazzi (2022) and ensembles with Sheila del Bosque and Patricia Zárate Pérez in 2023. She was also a guest co-curator with Ken Fields for the 2023 Jazz Along The Charles public performance project with 25 jazz ensembles and was featured in a Solo(s) Together video preview for Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Music for Black People No. 1 Relentless filmed at Futura Studios, Roslindale in 2022.
