We're happy to announce that our fall 2022 Dot Jazz Series concert will feature the Yulia Musayelyan Quartet. For this performance, Yulia will be joined by frequent collaborator Maxim Lubarsky on piano, Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass and Gen Yoshimura on drums.
Yulia Musayelyan was born in Moscow, Russia. She began her music studies at the age of 4, continued at the prestigious Gnessin School of Music, and holds a BM in flute performance from the Manhattan School of Music and an MA in Performance and Composition from New York University. In 2017, she joined the faculty of Berklee College of Music.
An award-winning flutist in both classical and jazz idioms, Yulia has extensive experience playing Brazilian, Argentinean and other South American folkloric styles as well as improvisation in all genres.
She has performed and recorded with artists of diverse genres such as Marta Gomez, Marta Topferova, Vardan Ovsepian Chamber Ensemble, and Hector Martignon Jazz Camerata. She has toured the US, UK, Europe, Central and South America with various musical projects.
Yulia has recorded over 25 albums as sidewoman and several as a leader, including the 2021 'Oblivion' and the 2020 'Unsaid.' She performs regularly with her quartet, her ‘Tango meets Jazz’ project, MaCaYu Trio, Fernando Huergo Quintet, Manhattan Camerata, MOZIK, Brooklyn Orchestra and Gaia Wilmer Octet, among others.
The Dot Jazz Series is a collaboration between Mandorla Music and Greater Ashmont Main Street.
