Come to Lala Rokh in Beacon Hill and celebrate with us at the bar or dining room as we host an authentic Yalda celebration.
Shab-e Yalda, one of the most celebrated traditional events in Iran, celebrates the longest night of the year: The Winter Solstice. Persians celebrate the arrival of winter, the renewal of the sun, and the victory of light over darkness.
--Enjoy pop-up performances by our resident poetry readers, who will be reading poems in both English and in Farsi.
--Enjoy complimentary fruit like pomegranate seeds, a staple in the celebration, when you join us for dinner.
--Look forward to the increasing light that the season will bring!
We will be taking reservations as well as welcoming any walk-ins, with festivities beginning at 5 P.M. and lasting throughout the evening.
Yalda Night is one of the oldest Persian festivals. Traditionally, family members and friends gather together and stay awake all through the night. Fires are lit to ensure the defeat of evil forces, and pomegranate seeds, dried nuts, and watermelon are served due to their special significance. The belief that eating summer fruits would keep one from falling ill in the cold season bestows watermelon with importance, and pomegranate seeds serve as a reminder for the cycle of life.
