"Meditation is poetry felt in the body," and In Writing Yourself Alive we will be in conversation with the nature surrounding us by practicing walking meditation, generative writing exercises, collaborative prompts and even tree-hugging (optional but highly recommended!), that will leave us refreshed and ready for a new week.
The creative practices will be our gateways to explore our emotions and experiences with curiosity, compassion, and a sense of humor, within ourselves and with others, on the page and in the rich soil warmed by the summer sun. This great class will take place at the Arnold Arboretum, and those who register will receive the exact meeting spot. A portion of the profits will be donated to the arboretum.
Bring a blanket or a meditation cushion, your favorite notebook, a water bottle, snacks, and bug spray!
Workshop time: 10-12:30pm including walk time.
Instructor’s Bio
Marika Preziuso, PhD, is Associate Professor of World Literature and Writing at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her teaching is very informed by an understanding of cultural differences in the classroom, and she leads workshops on cross-cultural communication for art and writing educators (Grub Street, New England Conservatory, MassArt).
As a published poet and RYT yoga and meditation instructor, Marika leads community workshops specifically for creatives who straddle languages, cultures, and complex personal histories, to rekindle their creative flow through the practices of meditation, journaling, story-telling and verse in translation.
Please note there will not be any carpooling for this trip. Participants will meet directly at the arboretum.
