Writers in Residence Welcome Reading 2023

Join Porter Square Books to welcome our 2023 Writers in Residence Meghan Strapec and Pia Owens as they read selections from their works in progress!

Meghan K. Strapec was born and raised just outside of Detroit. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she studied English and German and developed a love of Early Modern poetry. She earned her Master's in Education from Boston College and currently works in the library department for the Somerville Public Schools. Meghan is an avid home baker, a voracious reader, and a lover of animals. She is currently writing a YA dark academia novel set in the Berkshires.

Pia Owens is a writer, tech lawyer, and negotiation coach. In past lives she has also been a software engineer, mediator, and nonprofit board president. Pia is hard at work on her first novel, Take My Advice, about a socially anxious Black graduate student who hides in the basement coding her advice chatbot, and her mentor, a professor trying to rebuild her career after being sexually harassed and fired from her last job. In her spare time, Pia teaches online negotiation courses for people who don't like conflict, and serves as the ombudsperson for the Periplus Collective, a BIPOC writers mentoring program.
