A MUST SEE FOR ANYONE WHO’S EVER PUT IN A HARD, DAY’S WORK!
WORKING, based on the book, Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do by STUDS TERKEL - Adapted by STEPHEN SCHWARTZ and NINA FASO. WORKING celebrates the everyday laborers who create purpose in their lives by doing their life’s work. Ever wonder what your teacher is really thinking? Does your waiter really want you to, “enjoy your meal”? Witness these often unsung employees take center stage and tell their side of the story.
Director Wesley Savick directs a cast of over 35 Suffolk students who are joined on stage by musical director Scott Nicholas and his 4-piece band.
Savick chose to approach directing WORKING with inspired optimism. He explains,
"As we continue to navigate the challenges of a politically divided nation, Americans are still largely united by a common bond...work. This musical adaptation of Studs Terkel's revolutionary collection of interviews, "Working," celebrates the indomitable search for meaning in a world which seeks to diminish us. It is an uplifting assertion of dignity in the face of market-driven demands. We have set our production in the time of its creation, the late 1970s, in order to illuminate the legacy we continue to manage in 2023. We are very excited to share our discoveries with audiences."
The creative team includes Music Director Scott Nicholas; Lighting Designer Jeff Adelberg*; Assistant Lighting Designer Amanda Fallon; Scenic Designer Jeffrey A. Peterson; Co-Costume Designer Leslie Held; and Adam Godbout, Scene Shop.
Suffolk alumni include: Sound Designer Sam Noto [SU ‘20]; Choreographer Sydney Grant [SU ‘15]; and Props Designer Justin Lahue [SU ‘22].
And current Suffolk University students: Assistant Directors Desiree Mair and Olivia Festa; Production Stage Manager Kendra Waugh; Deck Stage Manager Mikey McCarthy; Co-Costume Designer Lisette van den Boogaard; Assistant Stage Manager Nate Kelleher; and Assistant Stage Manager Aurora Corrado.
