Join Haitian author, and current Harvard medical student, Milady Auguste, and former Boston poet laureate, Danielle Legros Georges, to discuss Haitian diaspora identity and Auguste's second novel, Sur les Traces de Man Bonne; a sweeping historical epic about a Haitian American woman's investigation into her family's history of voodoo.
Milady, vice president of literary organisation, Refrain Littéraire, balances her life between medicine and literature. She is currently doing a Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery at Harvard Medical School, and she is also the author of two books: En attendant le bout de la caverne and Sur les traces de ManBonne, published independently in 2023, and which are in the process of being translated into English. She lives in Cambridge, MA.
Legros Georges is a Haitian-born American poet, who became Boston's second poet laureate in 2014. She received a BA from Emerson College in Boston and an MFA in poetry from New York University. She is the author of two poetry collections: The Dear Remote Nearness of You (Barrow Street Press, 2016), winner of the New England Poetry Club’s 2016 Sheila Margaret Motton Book Prize, and Maroon (Curbstone Books, 2001). She is a professor emeritus in the MFA creative writing program at Lesley University and lives in Boston, MA.
