Join us for an afternoon with local authors Alyssa Alessi and Lisa Stringfellow!
Are you a witchy teen? A Potter head? Or feel like you might have ancestral powers? Two local authors of fantasy novels for young people will host a special double-bill feature on their new novels.
Live readings from middle grade (ages 8-12) books about strong girls making hard decisions while navigating through magically dark settings.
Stick around after the stories for a “Create A Monster” workshop where kids will learn how to create their own character.
Lisa Stringfellow writes middle grade fiction and has a not-so-secret fondness for fantasy with a dark twist. Her work often reflects her West Indian and Black southern heritage. Her first novel, A Comb of Wishes, about a grieving girl and a vengeful mermaid set against a backdrop of Caribbean folklore, was a Bram Stoker Award Finalist, an Indies Introduce Top Ten title, an Indie Next List selection, and a New England Booksellers Association Book Award Finalist. Her second novel, Kingdom of Dust, will be released August 20, 2024 by HarperCollins/Quill Tree Books. Lisa is a middle-school teacher and lives in Boston, Massachusetts, with her children and bossy cat.
Alyssa Alessi is a writer of middle grade, young adult and short stories all inspired by the unsettling macabre aesthetic of New England. As a child she was on a constant hunt for ghosts, vampires, and her own powers as a witch. When she couldn’t find them, she settled for writing them into existence. Her first book, Izzy Hoffman is Not A Witch, about a 12-year-old from Marlblehead, MA, who is haunted by her late witch grandmother, was published by Cinnabar Moth Publishing in 2023. You can find her hiking any trail in the Northeast said to be haunted, roaming old cemeteries with a camera in hand, or thrift shopping anywhere antiques are sold. She resides in Boston, MA with her husband, three children and their mini dachshund.
