About the Nichols House: In 1885, Elizabeth Nichols and Dr. Arthur Nichols purchased this 1804 townhouse where their three daughters matured into designers, writers, and social activists. They employed live-in domestic staff who also occupied the home. Rose Standish Nichols later inherited the property and decided it would become a museum, featuring a collection of fine and decorative art as well as everyday objects, upon her death in 1960.
