Henry IV Part I is one of the Bard’s historical plays. It follows the reign of King Henry IV who has taken the throne after the murder of King Richard II. It’s an unquiet reign and rebellion is brewing among some of the very nobles who helped him gain the crown. Meanwhile, the King’s son and heir, Prince Hal, is living a dissolute life. He’s cavorting with Falstaff and other unsavory characters, fettering his days away drinking and carrying on in a very “un-princely” fashion. Prince Hal vows to improve his behavior and demonstrate his royal mettle when the time is right. But will he get the chance?
