Celebrate South African Freedom Day with Lesley University at the Boston premiere of the award-winning documentary “When Voices Meet,” followed by a discussion with film subject Sharon Katz.
In 1993, musician and music therapist Sharon Katz and singer and educator Nonhlanhla Wanda formed a 500-voice multicultural children’s choir. Despite the barriers of Apartheid, the group traveled the country by rail, bringing a message of unity. “When Voices Meet” chronicles that journey and the choir’s enduring impact.
The film will be screened Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at Washburn Auditorium, 10 Phillips Place, Cambridge. This free event is open to the public will kick off Lesley University’s 8th annual Arts in Healthcare Conference “Responding to Collective Anxiety and Building Community Resilience,” taking place Friday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (registration required).
