The Checkout—Live at Berklee, a collaboration between WBGO Jazz 88.3FM and Berklee, presents Lawrence Fields with Vicente Archer on bass and Corey Fonville on drums.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Lawrence Fields is a pianist and composer who is known for a personal, melodic style. During his studies at Berklee, Fields became the first-ever recipient of the prestigious James Williams scholarship, along with other piano department awards and accolades. He has been a member of several nationally recognized groups, including the Nicholas Payton Group, and the Jeff "Tain" Watts Quartet. In addition, he has performed or recorded with artists such as Branford Marsalis, Terri Lyne Carrington, Christian McBride, Bob Hurst, and Delfeayo Marsalis.
Fields currently holds the piano chair in the Joe Lovano Classic Quartet (featuring George Mraz and Lewis Nash), the Sax Supreme Quintet (featuring Chris Potter and Joe Lovano), and the Christian Scott Group. He can be seen performing at venues all across the world, both as a sideman and a leader of his own ensembles.
