Join us for this full length Teen Edition of Anaïs Mitchells haunting, jazz-inflicted folk opera which follows Orpheus’ mystical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice. Following two intertwining love stories - that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone - HADESTOWN, TEEN EDITION invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
HADESTOWN, TEEN EDITION features a talented audition-based cast composed of 19 students between the ages of 14 and 18. Cast members of HADESTOWN, TEEN EDITION reside in Wellesley as well as other communities including Natick, Needham, Newton, Weston, and Brookline. The production staff includes: Ben Rush, Director & Scenic & Lighting Design; David Wright, Music Director; Nadine Sa, Stage Manager; Jacob Robbins, Assistant Director; Alex Ho, Assistant Choreographer; and Nathan Hutchinson, Assistant Music Director. HADESTOWN, TEEN EDITION features a Book, Music, & Lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell, and is presented through special arrangements with Concord Theatricals.
Wellesley Theatre Project is an award winning arts academy and a Wellesley nonprofit devoted to providing students (PreK - 12th Grade) with the opportunity to study and experience theatre and performing arts through year round classes, staged productions, workshops and summer camps.
