WHAT: WATERx is an immersive concert and art installation exploring the unconscious through five musical world premieres, each corresponding to a different landscape: Glacier, Waterfall, Gorge, River, and Sea. The music investigates five different states of mind, inviting you to consider the complex variability of impulse, emotion, and memory in a probing tribute to the self-transformative experience of music and art. Charged with nostalgia, the work of artist HARAN KIM threads past memories with the present to create an imagined future; her projections have been designed to work with the unique architecture of Brown Hall and will be displayed in tandem with a physical installation by New York designer SALLY HUANG and Boston-based artist KATYA POPOVA. The five featured composers of WATERx have roots in China (Tianfang JIA), Vietnam (Bao NGUYEN), Iran (Bahar ROYAEE), Latvia (Rihards KOLMANIS), and the US (Kyle BRENN), and have created original music especially for this event in a program that defies conventions of musical genre and unites musicians across the classical, free improv, and avant garde worlds.
