Unearthed Song & Poetry is an open mic series at home.stead bakery & cafe that happens every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Each month we feature a rising musician and poet and encourage any and all poets and musicians to sign up to share 2 pieces of their work. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm. $4 cover at the door.
Our featured musician this month is Erica Leigh. Erica Leigh is an ASCAP & SESAC award-winning songwriter hailing from Boston, who sounds like Paula Cole - meets - Sara Bareilles. 2-time Grammy award-winning producer Ben Wisch [Marc Cohn] says that Erica brings stories to life with "so much emotion and so much heart." John Mayer calls her music "soulful and sexy... I love [her] phrasing." Erica Leigh commands the stage with tales of vulnerability and battle scars - of courage and hope, and she comes by them honestly... In spite of nearly losing her voice permanently to cancer in 2013, Erica overcame this hurdle and wound up truly finding her voice as a musical artist. During her recovery she dug deeper into the human experience, and unearthed new songs that she is preparing to record a sophomore album with. You can follow along with her album-making process at Facebook.com/ericaleighfans ...On Instagram as: @ericaleighmusic ...OR, by visiting www.EricaLeigh.com.
Our featured poet this month is Krysten Hill. Krysten Hill is an educator, writer, and performer who has showcased her poetry on stage at The Massachusetts Poetry Festival, Blacksmith House, Merrimack College, U35 Reading Series, and many others. She received her MFA in poetry from UMass Boston where she currently teaches. Her work can be found or is forthcoming in apt, Word Riot, The Baltimore Review, B O D Y, Muzzle, PANK, Winter Tangerine Review and elsewhere. She is the recipient of the 2016 St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award. Her chapbook, How Her Spirit Got Out, received the 2017 Jean Pedrick Chapbook Prize.
