Like digging in the dirt? Been curious about why not all dirt looks the same?
Join the SPL for a family-friendly, hands-on virtual workshop that encourages urban explorers of all ages to get outside and pay closer attention to the world around them. Dig up some samples and learn to categorize the different types of dirt to discover what makes the dirt in your neighborhood unique!
Reserve a space for you and your group, and pick up a kit at the library the week of November 8.
We'll meet for an introductory Zoom and orientation on Saturday, November 13 at 11 AM. Then, you'll head out for a field exercise during the following week, and we'll meet again on Saturday, November 20 at 11 AM to talk about our explorations and share what we've collected.
Created by the Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX) in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab, the Understanding Ecology workshop series was originally designed for middle grade students, but is engaging and fun for urban explorers of all ages. Grab a buddy and go exploring together!
This program is made possible through CARES Act funding to Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
