Move over saxophone, it’s time to ukulele! Join The Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) on Tuesdays starting July 11th, 2017 through August 15th, 2017 for “Ukulele for Beginners” where students will learn first-hand from Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory graduate Jussi Reijonen the skills needed to master the ukulele.
From 7:45PM – 9:15PM, students will follow along with Reijonen, learning chords, tuning and how to play accompanying parts to everyone’s favorite tunes over the course if six sessions! Part of the lute family of instruments, the ukulele originated in Hawaii in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument, and has grown in popularity across the world since.
Reijonen is a Boston-based Finnish guitarist and oudist, and his critically acclaimed debut album un was nominated for an Independent Music Award. His years of travel gave him the opportunity to diversify his sound, working with well-known musicians across the world, and this summer, Reijonen is ready to share his knowledge to help discover the next ukulele star at the BCAE!
Step outside the box this summer and have a little fun with a ukulele. To register, or for more information please visit www.bcae.org.
