World-renowned composer, producer, cellist, and kora virtuoso Tunde Jegede brings a new vision to contemporary African and classical music. He is one of the only composers in the world to be steeped in both Western and African musical traditions having studied both cello in London and the kora in The Gambia from a very early age. Tunde, a documentary by filmmaker Ron Wyman, features the legendary late Malian vocalist Kassé Mady Diabaté (“the Voice of Mali”) and focuses on Tunde's transcendent music and the collection of international artists and singers he assembled to create The Nomadic Mystics. The film follows them through the process of rehearsing, recording, and performing and brings a unique insight into the working progress of a new music that traces and celebrates the legacy of the African connection with its Diaspora. The film also features performances by jazz vocalist Cleveland Watkiss, Sona Maya Jobarteh (Tunde’s sister), and kora virtuosos Toumani Diabaté and Wali Cham.
