The Boston Camerata’s pioneering programs of early American music have brought pleasure to thousands of music lovers, and helped to clarify and define our country’s rich and diverse cultural identity. Having recently returned from an international tour, it’s only fitting to reconnect with our roots in our aptly program, Trav’ling Home: American Spirituals 1770–1870, tracing the migratory currents and flows of such repertoire, largely spiritual but also secular.
These songs – celebrating love, peace, angst, yearning, and community – represent what is best and, hopefully, most permanent in the American soul. As the United States currently traverses a period of turmoil and crisis, may this music help us maintain and keep uppermost what is good and beautiful in the American dream.
A pre-concert talk with Joel Cohen, Music Director Emeritus of the Boston Camerata, and Dr. Libor Dudas, Music Director at the Old North Church, will take place prior to our April 27th performance at 4:30pm.
