Tour a fascinating piece of American history: the Quincy Homestead represents construction from three different periods. The original house dates to 1686. In 1706, extensive additions were made to the original structure and the Homestead did not emerge in its current form until in the mid-18th century. The house provides an excellent illustration of how architectural styles developed during the Colonial period.
In your visit to the Quincy Homestead you can explore the lives of the settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, by learning about the members of the influential Quincy family and their the connection to John Hancock. During the Revolutionary period the Homestead was a meeting place for the patriots of Massachusetts.
In 1904 The National Society of The Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts purchased the Quincy Homestead. The Dames entered into a long-term cooperative relationship with the Commonwealth. Now the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation own the property and are responsible for maintaining the exterior of the house and grounds. Any tour should include a walk through the gardens.
The Homestead is only open on seven days annually, but private group tours can be booked by appointment.
