An exhibit of photographs by Charles Daniels (1942-2024) is extending its run at the Nave Gallery in Somerville MA on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. through June 23, and concluding with a reception on June 26 from 6-8 pm at the gallery.
Daniels grew up in Roxbury, MA. At age 12, he picked up his parents’ camera and began documenting the people and neighborhoods around him. The historic images on display at the Nave Gallery were developed, thanks to a 2023 GoFundMe campaign, out of thousands of undeveloped rolls of film shot throughout Daniels’ life.
In the 1960s, Daniels began emceeing at the Boston Tea Party, the old Boston Garden, and the Orpheum, where he became friends with rockers like Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, and Peter Wolf. This led to him touring with the bands, camera in hand. His photographs chronicle legendary musicians in intimate moments, backstage or en route to shows.
