Cambridge-based keyboardist and composer Dave Bryant, a long-time sideman of free jazz legend Ornette Coleman, embarks on his second year of presenting his monthly “Third Thursdays” concerts, a harmolodic jazz series, with concert lineups already in place for April and May, which include visiting artists who were also former Ornette Coleman colleagues.
For April 20th, Bryant will be joined by members of the NYC-based Just Ornette Quartet, led by electric piccolo bassist Al MacDowell, a former Coleman collaborator, along with quartet members acoustic bassist Tony Falanga, also a former collaborator, and drummer Tony Lewis. MacDowell’s veteran quartet is guided by Coleman’s groundbreaking free jazz principles and explores his deep and diverse catalog of compositions.
All “Third Thursdays” concerts are held at the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church, located just outside Harvard Square, with the following basic information:
