In this 2.5 hour workshop, we will learn the basics of visible clothing repair and practice slowing down in a gentle and fun container. Visible mending is the process of not only fixing a hole, but weaving colors and patterns into the repair, acknowledging the beauty of coming apart and back together. As we seek to build a more sustainable and kind world, taking care of our ripped and torn clothing can be an important and empowering step in shifting our relationship to what we already have.
Together, we will learn and practice from the very beginning- from threading the needle to learning a few basic stitches, and then will put it all together on items brought from home to repair. The second half of class will be spent repairing our garments and connecting with community.
Woven into our time will be threads of conversation of how we can bring this mindset into other parts of our life as well. All mending supplies will be provided, and participants are invited to bring an item or three in need of repair.
