The Street Chestnut Hill and locally owned bookstore Hummingbird Books unveil an enchanting concept for the holiday season. Hummingbird Books’ kids section has been transformed into a charming pop-up toy shop, offering a special holiday shopping experience for the whole family to enjoy. Now open, The Toy Shop at Hummingbird Books is a destination for finding unique gifts, complete with a selection of handpicked toys, games for the whole family, creative stocking stuffers, and special surprises.
Bursting with holiday cheer, The Toy Shop at Hummingbird Books features a whimsical life size Gingerbread House at its entrance, and the bookstore has transformed itself into a festive holiday wonderland. As guests pass through the Gingerbread House, they will be delighted to find toys for all ages, including the popular Toniebox, Bitzees, Picasso Tiles, wooden toys, and locally made plushies from Scatterbrain Toys. Hummingbird Books’ beloved collection of children’s books is also available.
Throughout the holiday season, Hummingbird Books is offering special holiday gift-wrapping with donations benefiting over a dozen local charities. Participating organizations include Newton Food Pantry, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Mass Post Partum Depression Fund, Off The Rocks Animal Rescue, Centre Street Food Pantry, Caitie’s Closet, and many more. For the complete list of organizations and the gift-wrapping schedule, please visit www.hummingbirdbooks.com.
On Saturday, December 16th, guests will be treated to a special Storytime with Santa. From 10am to 11am, little ones can gather around the shop’s Gingerbread House while Santa reads holiday favorites like ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Jimmy Fallon’s 5 More Sleeps ‘Til Christmas. Following storytime, Santa will stay for photos with guests. Tickets for Storytime with Santa are $5 per family and all proceeds will benefit Brookline Food Pantry. Registration is required for this event; to register, please visit the event page here. Hummingbird Books’ weekly Sunday storytime at 11am will continue throughout the season.
