The imaginary beasts theatre ensemble proudly presents “The Spider and the Fly: or, The Tangled Web” -- a free-wheeling re-telling of the Victorian narrative poem of the same name, that promises fun for the whole family!


Enter the mansion of our Great Author’s mind as he sets out to write a brand new Panto, with the help of a “Spark” of inspiration sent to him by an encouraging Good Fairy. Unfortunately, when old Cumbercrown, the Demon King, catches wind of the forthcoming creativity – in the joyful form of Panto, no less! – he resolves to doom the hapless Author’s every effort.

Despite the Demon King’s wicked intentions, the Author dreams up a cast of delightfully quirky characters including a charming Principal Boy in the form of a young writer, a 1920s “It” Girl, a talking animal (of course) and let’s not forget the Dame! Meanwhile, the spirit of Folly leads audiences through the traditional Panto routines and keeps the magic of theatre alive. But will our Author complete his hoped for Panto, or will he suffer an everlasting bout of writer’s block, or will he wind up lost in an ever-spinning panto-within-a-panto...within a panto?


Written by Matthew Woods (imaginary beasts founder) and Kiki Samko, with assistance from the ensemble, this Panto spoofs the Panto form – and the writing process– itself -- in a delightfully topsy-turvy way that will please playgoers of every age.
