Quincy High School Reveals the Magic Behind the Scenes.
The Scenographer’s Charrette: A look behind the curtain into the world of theatrical design.
The Quincy Art Association has teamed up with Quincy High School's Drama Club to shine a spotlight on a portion of live performance that is almost never seen. The artwork and designs of the technicians, crews, and theatrical designers.
The exhibit will be displayed at the QArts Gallery, from February 3rd until March 12th, featuring student work from productions spanning the last ten years. Artwork such as production photos, scenic renderings, technical drawings, custom stage props and costumes will all showcase the wide range of artistic collaboration needed to mount a theatrical production. The title "The Scenographer's Charrette" references this artistic process, as a charrette is the meeting when the theatrical designers gather to envision the environment of the play. The exhibit will showcase how the world of the play goes from the script's page and ends up on the stage.
Donations to help defray costs of the upcoming spring musical production are greatly appreciated and can be sent to: Quincy High School Drama Club, Quincy High School, 100 Coddington Street, Quincy, MA, 02169, as well as at the opening reception and throughout the monthlong exhibit.
The Opening Reception Fundraiser for the QHS Drama Club will be held on February 3rd from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Gallery Hours: Thurs. & Fri. 2PM-5PM, Sat. & Sun. Noon-5PM. Free and open to the public. The QArts Gallery is managed and operated by volunteer members of the Quincy Art Association, and is located at 1229 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02169 (across from Quincy College).
