The Reggae Takeova is a Reggae party that will come to your establishment with some of the best Reggae musicians and artists that Boston has to offer.

January 28th The Reggae Takeova moves into Naco Taco in Cambridge, featuring Toussaint the Liberator & the Naya Rockers.

Speaking truths you’ve always known, that live in your bones, Toussaint Liberator’s music pushes your soul towards conscious action from every direction. Building from an established musical career both solo and as the lead vocalist of Soulive, Toussaint has firmly planted himself in the soil of Boston, MA as a staple of the city’s music scene. He is the true embodiment of the lyrics he sings - a piercing voice in this time of pompous fantasy and materialistic buffoonery. Toussaint is a force within the worlds of art and activism, embodying these two elements as essential partners in effecting change in the world.

Toussaint's music is at the intersection of American soul, reggae and gospel. He does other things, I mean his expression covers the gamut. He can rap, he can sing, he can chant, he can do the spoken word, and he can beat the hell out of a drum! But what he does well is he touches people with his passion. He attacks each song as if it his last and the people feel that every time. With the patient development of the relationship with the Naya Rockers band, Toussaint has began to hone in on some key building blocks for his live sound. Relying heavily on Studio One dubplates and old school American soul for mashup cover tunes, improvisation is always central in a Toussaint Liberator concert experience. This combination, Toussaint Liberator and the Naya Rockers is a seasoned, well-oiled machine that can crank through three hours of original material or play a night full of covers from an ever expanding bag of reggae, soul, afrobeat and blues.

Currently, Toussaint works at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility to bring prisoners his own curriculum dubbed “From Slave To Soldier” - a multidisciplinary program with an emphasis on self-development and self-therapy. This spirit-building is brought about through drumming, singing, creative writing and engaging discussion on a range of topics in an attempt to prepare the prisoners for the outside world. Toussaint is the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, an LGBTQ affirming congregation focusing on social and racial justice where he hosts the First Friday Open Mic. First Fridays is a meeting place for the local community poets, spoken word artists, singers and musicians and a safe place for young people making him a curator of sorts and his leadership has shifted FirstFriday from a more national, big name focus to a big up the local artist perspective.

All in all, Toussaint is working hard where he lives to establish what he calls “institutions of culture.” Since moving back to Boston, he has developed a weekly drum circle on Wednesdays in the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood of Dorchester, at the Sustainability Guild’s Community Hub on Bowdoin St. and is moving against the grain bringing his world class band to play at Restaurante Cesaria on Thursday nights just down the street. If you ask Toussaint, the revolution is local. “How can we claim to be changers of the world or the country when we can’t change the culture and dynamic of our own neighborhoods?”

Foremost, Toussaint Liberator is the resistance, watering a growing garden of artistry and social action. As his good work encourage the spirits of all men and women, his music becomes the vehicle for his message - one that has carried him the world over to share the stage with renowned artists such as Isacac Hayes, the Rolling Stones, John Legend, and the Dave Matthews Band.
