What is The Poetry Brothel?
As described in The New Yorker, The Poetry Brothel is where “a madam presents a rotating cast of poets, artists, and artisans who erupt into verse in public and lure guests into back rooms for private readings.”
Each artist performs in character—an alter ego that acts as both disguise and liberation—creating a space of uninhibited creative expression, intimate connection, and poetic magic.
Our cast reflects the rich diversity of our city, with performers who are cis and trans women, cis and trans men, genderqueer, genderfluid, and nonbinary artists; people of color; queer and straight; emerging and established voices alike. You might meet faeries, sirens, witches, aliens, royalty, demons, ancient forests—and everything in between.
Some of our artists do engage in sex work outside of this space, but The Poetry Brothel is a literary and immersive arts experience only.
Consent & Conduct
Behave with beauty, connect with intention.
We are, by and large, a no-contact event—here to blow your mind and nothing else. Always ask before touching anyone in our House. If you experience or witness anything uncomfortable, please report it to security, staff, or the Madam immediately.
Please note: our show may include flashing lights, amplified music, and perhaps a startling glimpse of your true self.
