Treat your ears to some infrequently-performed yet beautiful and delightful choral works by lesser-known composers! You will hear: Expressive choral settings of German Romantic poetry by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (Felix’s older sister). Three choruses by Boston’s own Amy Beach on words from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Gerald Finzi’s sensitive choral settings of seven poems of Robert Bridges, written before he became England’s Poet Laureate in 1913. Franz Biebl’s beautiful “Ave Maria,” neglected for six years until the Cornell University Glee Club discovered it in 1970. Two pieces by Ludwig Senfl, an early 16th century Swiss: a sacred motet and a lively mimetic piece that sounds like bells in a cathedral tower. Also in Cambridge on Friday, May 4th, and in Concord on Sunday, May 6th.
