Togetherness! originated in Montreal in 2016, this concert is all Boston pros (the leader is Canadian who formed the band), that plays joyful, adventurous, swinging music from South Africa and beyond. They play compositions by Abdullah Ibrahim, Dudu Pukwana, Johnny Dyani, William Parker, Don Cherry, Ellwood Epps, and more.
Togetherness! is a highly unified group sound, exciting and surprising improvisation, and an energetic take on performance which aims to uplift the band and listeners together.
The Canadian group has played in the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Something Else! Festival, and a tour of Ontario. The music speaks to fans of swinging jazz, danceable grooves, and the avant-garde, all essential elements within the tradition of South African jazz music.
